Background of the Study

Political communication, the exchange of information between political entities and the public, is vital in shaping opinions, policies, and democratic processes. In Yola North Local Government Area, Adamawa State, political communication is facilitated by traditional and digital media, enabling political actors to reach diverse audiences. However, the regulation of political communication faces numerous challenges, including misinformation, propaganda, and the use of incendiary language. Scholars argue that ineffective regulation can distort political discourse, undermine public trust, and fuel social divisions (Ahmed & Musa, 2023; Bello, 2024). With the rise of social media, these challenges have intensified, necessitating a deeper understanding of regulatory frameworks and their implications. This study examines the challenges of regulating political communication in Yola North, focusing on the balance between free expression and accountability.
